I was only kidding Old Man Winter!

Ok apparently Old Man Winter didn’t like me telling him to exit the stage. It was 45 degrees today. Notice I said WAS. Now all of a sudden the winter winds are whipping around the house with gusts expected up to 50 mph. The temperature has dropped to 32. It is sleeting/snowing/misting…all sorts of precipitation that are making the roads dangerous. The low tonight is supposed to be -9. Yes negative nine. That is without the wind chill. The high tomorrow is going to be a whopping 14 degrees. Then snow expected on Thursday!

Can I scream UNCLE now?!!

Next time it gets warm on a winter day I’m going to keep my big mouth shut. ;-)

Touchdown

Not a touchdown as in football though…how I wish that was the case. No those tornado warnings yesterday became reality. I last heard there were 37 touchdowns in the midwest. For us the tornado touchdown came very close and destroyed a local landmark. There is a local apple orchard that our family (and most everyone who lives around here) has frequented since I was a small child that was destroyed yesterday. I am devastated today but I know it cannot even begin to compare to what the family that owns the orchard is going through. Thankfully the family was not physically hurt. All of their out buildings were destroyed including the fabulous barn that held much of the apple-y goodness every year. Their home was structurally damaged although not leveled like the barns. Miraculously the orchard itself was left untouched by the tornado. For that I am thankful for this dear family. That orchard is their livelihood. Barns can be rebuilt before fall but orchards cannot.
There was so much devastation all over the midwest. I’m thankful we were spared but my heart aches for all those hurt by this. There is nothing you can do when a tornado comes. There is no rhyme or reason to where it will touchdown.
I’m just stunned today. Such a difference 24 hours can make. Yesterday I was posting about how warm it was at this time. Today I’m posting about devastation from that warmth. Amazing.
Lord be with the families that have lost so much in the last 24 hours. I pray you heal their bodies and give them peace in their hearts. Hold them tight in your mighty arms of love.

63 Degrees in January?!

I can NOT believe how warm it is today! This is just unheard of for our area to be this BLISSFULLY WARM :) in January. Makes me want spring all the more. (I’m not a winter gal) It looks like spring too. All of the snow (and there was a lot) has melted away…so it is just mud everywhere. It’s even gloomy like a spring day. But I don’t care I’m going to enjoy the day! It’s 63 degrees in January ya’ll!!

Ok it just gets weirder…

Yes I was out and about enjoying the warm day when the sky started to get rather scary looking. Thunder rolled as Garth would say. Ok so a thunderstorm in January…that’s odd but not out of the complete normal…it happens. As I was leaving my sister’s house her DMIL calls her to say there are tornado warnings in effect. My sister yells out the door to me this info as I’m walking to my car. I turned around and said, “WHAT?!!” She said it was north of us, not coming our way, but get home fast. Ok so I’m driving the three minutes home thinking tornado? In January? But we were experiencing 63 degrees so crazy weather was to be expected. I mean you don’t go from being negative wind chills a week ago to this warm without some trouble.
Goodness this is just so weird.
I’m turning off my computer and going down to the basement. Stay safe and God be with everyone.
